The release of their second album followed. The band started off small, but not without a certain charming flair. Where most bandsmen handed out fliers, they also used megaphones as a means of personal promotion. Despite having only a small collection of songs to offer, they worked relentlessly to produce more. Their releases varied widely in style and composition, and the band made it an obvious goal to appeal to a broad audience - a plan which obviously worked. SID grew rapidly in their initial years, at a rate which surprised numerous publications and notoriously earned them the title "the monster band of the indie scene".Ģ006 was a big year for SID: they broke into the Oricon top ten for the first time with their summer single, "Chapter 1", and they were able to play a one-man at the famous Nippon Budokan live hall. They finished the year with the release of their third album, play, and a new one-man tour that took them throughout Japan. The following year brought a slew of new singles, including September's "Mitsuyubi" (蜜指), which was the band's first to reach the Oricon top five. Their debut concert at Nippon Budokan sold out in under two minutes in November 2008. Their next single, titled "2☌ me no kanojo" (2℃目の彼女), came out in January 2009, and three months later "Uso" (嘘) debuted at number two on the Oricon charts and was also used as the 1st ending theme of popular anime Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Their other recent releases also seem to be used for popular anime, so anticipate many more songs to be used for original soundtracks. The live version of Hosoi Koe was alright, but not as good as the live versions of “Memai” and “chapter 1”.Their first major album, Hikari, was released on July 1, 2009, and will serve as the primary set list for what will be their largest tour to date.Īnother single named, "One Way" was released on 11. Danro was an amazing surprise since it’s jazzy and chill and something you wouldn’t exactly see SID pulling off much. The A-side is of course pretty strong due to it’s rockin’ sound and tie-in to BLEACH. Ranbu no Melody is another strong single from the band showing off their abilities as a band.

I really liked how Hosoi Koe sounds in the beginning with the strings and light synths playing around before Mao and Shinji enter the song. In this case it would be their 6th single of the same name. Of course it wouldn’t be a SID single without a live version of one of their indies songs. Hosoi Koe (Live from SID Summer Festa 2010) I pretty much fell in love with this song and it’s classy and something I would’ve never expected SID to pull off.ģ. Unlike “Ranbu no Melody’s” J-rock sound, Danro is actually a jazzy song that’s filled with piano, bass, and light percussion. Definitely fits the anime easily!įor their B-side, Danro is something I wanted to hear from the band and if there was a time that I felt that a band can just do anything with their music, SID pulled it off in flying colors with Danro. I mean when the title comes out as Wild Melody, I was slightly expecting more of a punch, but what we got isn’t bad at all and I liked Mao’s vocals and Shinji’s solo in the song since that gave it that more wild presence. Various rhythms for music production, synthesia, yamaha, roland, korg, casio keyboards. Of course, when you get a song to have a tie-in into the BLEACH series, you know it’s going to be pretty damn awesome and then mixing it up with SID’s already strong repetoire of songs in this era, Ranbu no Melody is no exception.
